===Pierewietsen===
'''Introduction'''

Pierewietsen is a team sport. The team size is undetermined. As with other batting sports pierewietsen is played in turns per team. A field team and a batting team. If all members of the batting team lost their turn the field team starts on their batting turn.

'''Maximum score and counting of points'''

It is common practice to agree the winning score before starting to play.

A score of 10.000 point or more is common and depends on the players experience. The game is not limited in time and can be stopped for lunch, drinks or a good night sleep.

The counting of the points is done by the referee if there is no referee available the points are counted by an appointed player or by each team. It is a gentleman’s agreement that you count correctly.

'''Equipment'''

1.       A field of undetermined length and width is found and agreed upon by the 2 teams, possible obstacles are not removed if they are not interfering with the overall gameplay.

2.       A wooden stick (bat) of 70cm and a small stick (bail) of 14cm is used to play. The sizes can change, but the ratio is 1:5 at all times.

3.       A groove / slot is made using the batting stick in the ground not deeper than 1,5 times the diameter of the batting stick. The groove is about 50cm long, but no longer than the batting stick and not less than 35cm.

'''The Rules'''

There are some basic rules that are not open for discussion and there are some “open” rules that are discussed before the game starts.

'''Basic rules for all games.'''

'''''First turn (the rock up)'''''

1.       The bail is placed across the slot as far to the field side as possible.

2.       The bat is placed underneath the bail and then lifted hard to “shoot” the bail into the playing field.

3.       The field teams tries to catch the bail (catching gives points, see section “points”). The batter loses his turn.

4.       If it is not caught and the bail drops to the ground the bail can be kicked as long as it is moving.

5.       When the bail comes to rest the batter puts his bat across the backside of the slot.

6.       The field team thrower can now throw the bail towards the bat to hit the bat.

7.       There are several possible outcomes.

a.       The bail doesn’t touch the bat.

b.       The bail touches the bat.

c.       The bail touches the bat and lies in the slot.

If the result is point a, the batter takes his bat and counts the amount of lengths that fits between his bat and the backside of the slot.

If there is no place to fit the bat between the bail and the slot the batter doesn’t get points and continues his turn.

Both b and c results in that the batter loses his turn.

Result c gives the field team 5 points.

8.       The batter gives his turn to the next player based on the outcome of point 7 or he continues his turn.

'''''Second turn (1 stroke)'''''

1.       The bail is held by the batter in one hand.

2.       The batter tries to hit the bail into the field as he drops the bail.

3.       The field teams try to catch the bail (catching gives points, see section “points”). The batter loses his turn.

4.       If it is not caught and the bail drops to the ground the bail can be kicked as long as it is moving.

5.       When the bail comes to rest the batter holds his bat and takes position at the slot.                 Note: He can hold his bat in the slot where he wants, but not fixed on the ground.

6.       The field team thrower can now throw the bail towards the bat to get the bail into the slot.

7.       There are several possible outcomes.

a.       The batter hits the bail while the bail is thrown into the slot.

b.       The bail is thrown in the slot.

If the result is point a, the batter takes his bat and counts the amount of lengths that fits between his bat and the backside of the slot.

If there is no place to fit the bat between the bail and the slot the batter doesn’t get points and continues his turn.

b results in that the batter loses his turn and gives the field team 5 points.

'''''8.      ''''' The batter gives his turn to the next player based on the outcome of point 7 or he continues his turn.

'''''Third turn (2 stroke)'''''

1.       The bail is held by the batter in one hand.

2.       The batter tries to hit the bail 2 times as he drops the bail.

3.       The field teams try to catch the bail (catching gives points, see section “points”). The batter loses his turn.

4.       If it is not caught and the bail drops to the ground the bail can be kicked as long as it is moving.

5.       When the bail comes to rest the batter goes to the bail and counts the amount of times the bat fits between the slot and the bail.

6.       The batter gives his turn to the next player based on the outcome of point 3 or he continues his turn.

Here he can choose to try a 3 stroke (giving more points) or start over with the rock up.

'''Open rules'''

·       Before the game starts it can be agreed upon that a 3 stroke is mandatory.

'''''Fourth turn (3 stroke)'''''

Here he can choose to try a 4 stroke (giving more points) or start over with the rock up.

·       Before the game starts it can be agreed upon that the thrower can take a step or a jump forward.

·       The thrower can “make the line straight”. See point B in the drawing. This is a common rule for playing the game, but not a fixed rule.
